Teasers be damned! It is time for the big reveal!

Starting Friday, April 1st, I’ll be running Pathfinder for Savage Worlds as our Friday night game via Foundry VTT and Zoom.

What is Pathfinder for Savage Worlds? Officially, it is Savage Worlds adapted for playing games in Paizo’s Golarian settting and for playing their Adventure Paths, with Rise of the Runelords already converted. Unofficially, at least I think, it is something of a “rosetta stone” for running D&D style games using Savage Worlds. That is how this new campaign, The Savage Frontier, will be using Pathfinder for Savage Worlds.

What is the Savage Frontier? The Savage Frontier is an area of Faerûn, aka the Forgotten Realms. It is the northwest section of Faerûn. Unlike the well-known Sword Coast with its large civilized cities such as Waterdeep, the Savage Frontier is sparsely settled with farmsteads and rough and tumble settlements of loggers, miners, and the like. It is a wild frontier…think a fantasy wild west and that’s exactly how we’ll be treating it. As usual, the setting is a backdrop with play at the table taking center stage. I’m certainly no Forgotten Realms scholar and I don’t expect you to be either.

For our first session (4/1), we’ll do a short practice adventure. I don’t believe any of us have played this particular version of Savage Worlds and most of us haven’t played any Savage Worlds in quite some time. (No, I don’t really count our Tuesday ETU game for this since the game mechanics relatively rarely get used.) I’ll have a bunch of pregens you can select from for this and it may take up a session or two to finish.

The practice adventure is also for us to get accustomed to using Foundry with Savage Worlds. It is, of course, a bit different than using D&D Beyond and Beyond 20 with Foundry. In my initial testing, it seems relatively easy to use.

After that, we’ll start the actual campaign. Folks will be more than welcome to use a pregen, create their own character, or a combination (i.e., tweak a pregen).

I have purchased the Foundry VTT version of Pathfinder for Savage Worlds. The rules are all available as a Journal. Once I have the campaign set up in Foundry, I’ll share the link with everyone so you can peruse the rules as you see fit. Rules mastery isn’t really all that important in Savage Worlds. More so than D&D, Savage Worlds is very conducive to just describing, in normal language, what you’d like your character to do and I can translate it into the game mechanics for you. I’m sure we’ll also hit the “core” mechanics of the game as we do our practice session(s).

I’ll work on throgin together a bit of a campaign guide as a Foundry journal…much like for the Nentir Vale campaign. It’ll have basic information about the setting that any character might reasonably know. Again, you don’t need to memorize any of this information. I’ll share setting information your character would know even if you do not. (Although it would make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside if you’d read through it at least once.) No additional Forgotten Realms knowledge is really necessary

Todd will be joining us again for this campaign! Get ready to hit things with a hammer and naked characters!

RJ and I have already discussed this switch as he will be putting his campaign on pause. BIG THANKS to RJ for taking on the mantle of DM for as long as he has!!!

If anyone from the Friday crew isn’t interested in playing, please let me know asap…you know how to contact me.
