SitN Session #20: A Survivor

Warning: Spoilers below for the adventure, Siege of Bordrin’s Watch (albeit a modified version).

This is from Tyrande’s perspective.

The Orog was beating on the dwarf, the only live one we had seen so far, demanding that the tunnels be reopened. Only seeing about three orcs and what certainly must be Rage, the leader, we run right into the room. Of course, there were many more than three (hordes of hordes even).

Over the course of the battle, with some brave maneuvering from Yuri, some very potent blasts from Roxy, wide reaching explosions from Ruben and some resilient challenges from Rawr, we were able to cut down all the remaining orcs currently in the Monastery.

The room appeared to have a huge fire in the middle of it blocking the remains of what looked like an exit to the tunnels. Between the rubble and the fire also looked like a heap of armor and metal craft.

The dwarf, Kalad, told us what happened. He said they were attacked at night and that the orcs had come through the tunnels. This was especially troublesome because this means they had already passed through the Nexus, which seemed to trouble Kalad the most. He said on the other side of the fire were some especially significant pieces of armor the Monastery had created (the room had forges all along the sides). He offered for us to take and use any of those treasures if we could get to them. He certainly seemed much more concerned with the orc situation at the Nexus. (The treasures included: helm, handaxe, chainmail, belt, greaves and a couple packs with potions and bisquits.)

Given the state the Monastery was left in as well as Kalad’s wounded state, we offered to help him clean up and bury the bodies for a bit while we figure out what we should do. It seemed our choices would be to go back to Overlook and warn the council that the Monastery was taken out and that the Nexus was compromised, head to Bordrin’s Watch and assist with the battle, or head to the Nexus and assist the Farstrider’s/confirm it was closed.

Kalad seems to believe that the Nexus is of such importance that we leave immediately. Given the information from the Yuan-ti and the possible corruption of the council, it seems best to follow Kalad’s urgency and double check on the Nexus. Plus, if this many orcs and their cohorts had made it to the Monastery, there is no telling what kind of forces the Farstriders are going to be up against. Kalad says that there are ways into the tunnels through vents in the sides of mountains. He can take us to some of them.

Despite the importance and urgency of the matter, there is no way either Kalad or we would make without tending to some of our wounds. We rest up a bit, patch ourselves up and, for some of us, realign our interests and devotions to our deities.

With the help of Ruben’s Floating Disk, Kalad is given a ride on our journey, as even after the rest, he is still suffering from his injuries. After a bit we come to some vents and find a camp with some horses tethered nearby. We believe this was the Farstriders camp and we see tracks going into the vent/caverns.

With some nice tracking through the caverns, we make it to a stone area and encounter some weak orcs. After chasing some of the last ones up some stairs, we see a turret drop out of the ceiling, and judging from the amount of arrows that came out towards us, there were obviously some beyond our light source. With the turrets some stone-form guys shoot up out of the ground and trap us with spikes. We destroyed the stone guys and a turret and retreat around the corner to regroup.

Kalad has gone unconscious from his weakened state and its confusing that if this is path that the Farstriders took (and we believe it is) they didn’t take out all these turrets and traps.
